Katya Echazarreta already has her Barbie; Mattel honors the first Mexican woman to reach space

Mattel launched a campaign for the International Women’s Dayin which he created a series of Barbie dolls, and Katya Echazarreta —first Mexican woman to reach space— is part of it and received his own doll.
With the motto “you can be anything”a series of prominent women in multiple fields stand out being represented by dolls.
Through Instagram, Katya highlighted a photo of her doll, with her own story: “At 7 years old, when I used to pretend that my Barbie was an astronaut traveling through the galaxy, I never could have imagined that one day I would have my own Barbie“, scold.
“It is a great honor to be part of the Barbie Role Models campaign. During this campaign they wanted to honor impactful women from all over the world and I have the beautiful opportunity to represent Latin America“, he highlights. “This one-of-a-kind Barbie is here to represent all Latina girls who dream of the stars!.
In interview for MILLENNIUMKatya Echazarreta stressed that now girls can play astronauts and dream of becoming whatever they want, and that they also know that one day this can come true.
“If they want to play astronauts, they can become astronauts in the future, it doesn’t just have to be a game (…). The difference with this doll is that it’s not a generic astronaut doll; It’s from a real woman who exists, that she is working, that she really had these experiences and that she continues working to create opportunities for all Mexican and Latin American girls and boys in general, who want to achieve something like this. I think that gives them a lot of hope as well,” she said.
